This is what I have managed to finish for the tables. The only thing to do now is to wait for my printer to finish the printing for the rest of the night and loads of rehersal tomorrow.

I want to thank Katerina, Carrie, Kai and Sheng Fei for helping with the site model in the past two days. Lets hope I can present your labour well.

FIRST GLIMPSE OF CHAPTER 15

One of the plans in Cluster 3. Finally I've achieved what I wanted in the drawing style. This will be applied to two more plans and one section across the cluster.

Styles adopted to shade the line drawing.

Some of the site renderings done for diagraming how the residents of the cluster will relate back to the communal floors of the super block and surrounding site. A drawing to bring my 1st term's research in.

Result of playing with mental ray. The unit where the balcony will be photoshopped is pretty ok. Its just the white wash at the lower flats. Still figuring out the setting to make it better.

Trying to capture both the internal space and exterior view which sandwich the terrace. I've widened the field of depth of the camera to accentuate the height of the block. Either the desert or LA city scape will be collaged onto the background.

No Terracing in this type of flat, but a great view vertically down into downtown LA because of the facade orientation.

DRAWING LIST FOR FLATS IN CLUSTER 3

I am trying to wrap uo the drawings that shows the strategy of generating the interior walls for the flats and their qualities, so that I can move on to other areas of the superblock. These will be done for tomorrow.

Drawing List:

1) Sectional Perspective Showing Lifestyle x 2

Here's the short section across the cluster showing lifestyle of flats with and without terracing, which still requires some work. There's still the long section to be done.

2) Dynamic Orientation of Internal Walls

I will continue to work on the perspective view, adjusting the transparency o shw the quality in side. Working along with this drawing will be a progressive section, with a cutting plane set at every 3 meters, showing the rhythm of the interior walls.

3)Plans of 34th, 35th, 36th storey

4)Renderings of the interior, showing light quality and material.

5)2 Different Facade System with the different glass panel sizes.

Here is what I have so far for the section, 200 x 600mm primary floor beams with 200 x 200mm secondary beams angle bolted to them. The floor is made up of trapezoidal profiled steel floors with 100mm thk infill concrete. The internal wall partitions are made up of 12mm thick boards with metal studs at 800mm centre to centre, with acoustic partition and sealant. As for the ceiling, I couldn't think of what to do yet so I just added some false celiling panels hanging from the structure above.

Am still working on the glass but basically there are two systems. Facades flushing with the structure will be made out of isosilis (how to spell?) triangles of 2.4 wide by 3 m tall. Facades for the duplex seperating the interior from the terracing will be made of tempered glass with glass fins as support to reduce obstruction to views and daylighting. I will post more pictures later.

As for the drawing now, it may be unclear, so i will see if i could adopt thom mayne's drawing method where he stretches a part of the section into a to-scaled isometric detailing. And too I will have to integrate the quality of flats with some photoshopped plants.

SETTING UP FOR MY FINAL DRAWING

Looking at different monolithic architectural projects, be it conceptual or built, they usually have a drawing which contains the intention and concept of the architect.

Based on the geometry of my superblock, I have rendered a series of perspectival sections with the section plane rotating around the mid point of the site. Since each section cuts through different spaces, different information will be embedded in at the end of the year. Off my head, information of: circulation paths, lifestyle of different apartments, programmetic distribution, daylight illumination within the block, shadows casted around the site, detailing ... could all be inserted into the relavant sections. At the moment, I forsee it to be similar to FOA's Yokohamma Sea Terminal Drawings.
