Stacking back operation in progress

I've been having hard time to just stack containers back to the thinned volume of my superblock. Especialy in my case that unit is 6ft container and 4250 of those fit on the site, I need some clear criteria for myself to have a control on this operation. Anyway this is only 3rd model so just get all blocks I've already cut back on the site and reach to next step.

However this model is useful just to see density of units, and where need to be thinned more.

More images to be uploaded....

here is some detail

2200containers are stacked back on the site roughly a half of required volume. As I see how containers are distributed I can lift up some sports program in the centre.

New Printer !!

canonprinter.jpg

I finally bought a A3 printer today after two and half a year of days with my A4 printer and tile four A4 papers up to have A2...... It was much cheaper than I expected and got this for £202 (four color ink, borderless print, printable paper thickness up to 270gsm) though still a big investment for me. I'll test run this for next tutorial.

New Method of Organising Blocks

In this drawing it's really unclear that what I'm doing... but I basically introduced 3d grid on the site and set templete on side and in front and project both inwards and form volume. I'm organizaing catalogue of templete. Second pic is what I have so far on the site. In the last MDF block model, all the sports were located at lower levels so now I'm trying to distribute sports in different part, level of the super block.

Pictures are test model of volume colored red shown in the second drawing.

After all all towers are ready to be laser cut.....

all.jpg

These are AutoCad screen shot of unfolded plan drawing of my tower no_1 ~ no_26 (two most complex guys are missing....) This whole process of getting all of 3D model to these drawings took me 2 days to do......Now I need to apply program and as soon as I get models I can start to think about connection between towers and huge space available on ground.

Tower 2

vol3_2%28pattern%29.jpg

This is the program applied version of tower no_2 and following picture is a model that I have already folded. Some might ask why folding?? This is going to be clear with other version of model for demonstration.

Looking back and then forward.

Here I try to organize my thought before presentation. If you guys think there is anything unclear please give me a comment.

My initial intention was to propose a movable modular house and establish its system for transportation and then re-assemblage of units and removal again.

Therefore my project is divided to two phases.

1- An example of assemblage on the site in LA
2- Removal and transfer whole block to another destination and then reassemblege.

From idea of movable and modular I chose a shipping container as my unit.

Back to the site……

LA lifestyle is determined by freeway. Everyone has got a car and each single member of a family needs a car for commute, shopping, leisure, and etc…… However the capacity of freeway in LA had already been full up for long time. Hence the city is tying to keep people of from the freeway by encouraging them to stay home rather than building more freeways. Therefore community based planning are highly encouraged and more amenities are needed to be programmed within housing block (medical treatment, schools, shopping, workplace).

According to nature of my nomadic super block, program at each destination would be site specific and in the case of LA it’s sports which conjures up American consciousness of health and beauty as well being.

My study began with a speculation on possible application of sports within superblock.

Since then property of sports field became catalyst to form volume and configuration of stacking.(or aggregation)

Operation 1 (1:500 MDF block model)

1- FIll site with maximum volume (FAR5) Whole block holds 25 × 34 grids of containers in 5 levels.
2- Introduce fields of sports on to grids and remove containers
2_2-removed containers are kept as stock
3- Apply another level (level1~5) *All the following levels start thinning with one previous configuration
4- Divide remained volume into flats(1room~5 rooms, penthouse)

Now I have got 26 blocks formed by operation 2.

Result I got from this operation was as follows
1- All of sports field are distributed too close from each other.
2- It isn’t capable of holding sports fields at parts which is stacked back from stock.

Then objective for next operation would be……

Distribute sports evenly in superblock.

Operation 2

1- choose sports to introduce (each sports has got specific size property. (ex).Volleyball court needs 6 × 6 grid of containers)
2- decide height of a block. (Intention here is to form enclosure and providing viewing platform)
3- set template on top/side/front (according to step 1 and 2, template is decided)

26 blocks now provide sky sports field (open-air) and block gained big footprint. So I will divide my sports program into some open for public and some for residents-only.

To be continued………
